~ How A Solar Power Works

Solar Power/Wind Power

 Your Own Solar Power

Intelligent people generate their own electricity and reduce their dependence on an increasingly unreliable utility grid. Even a small system will “slow the meter down”, reducing your monthly electric bill while paying for itself at the same time. A larger system may ”turn the meter backwards”, so that excess power is sold back to the utility. Producing your own power is not only satisfying, but can protect you during a power failure as well.

Our Solar & Wind Power Systems have helped many people take advantage of free, clean energy from the sun. A solar or wind system will let you enjoy lights at the flick of a switch, the convenience of running water and the pleasure of music at your remote residence.

Designed to make installation simple and fast. Whether you install it yourself, or have your electrician do it for you, our Systems have everything you will need and since they are modular, your system is never obsolete. It is easy to expand your system by adding components.

 How a Solar System works

When sunlight shines onto solar panels, our advanced technology transforms the light into DC electricity. That DC electricity is then converted to AC electricity that is used throughout your home. During the day, if your solar system produces more electricity than is used in your home, the extra electricity produced is fed into the utility grid generating a credit on your electric bill. When this happens, you'll be able to see your utility meter actually spin backwards. At night, electricity is automatically drawn from the grid to provide your home with the power you need.

Battery option

With batteries added to your BP Solar Home Solutionâ„¢ extra electricity produced by your system is captured in the high capacity batteries for later use. This option is a perfect solution for homes that do not have easy access to a utility grid or are located in areas that experience frequent outages.

When your local electrical grid shuts down for any reason, including rolling blackouts or storm damage, any home solar system without batteries must shut down as well. This safety precaution prevents random surges of power from traveling the grid and causing injury or damage. However, if battery backup is included in your system you won't experience this inconvenience. When a power outage occurs in your area, your solar system will disconnect itself from the grid and draw power from the batteries. When grid power returns to normal, the system automatically reconnects.

Grid-Connected Homes
Many people generate their own electricity and reduce their dependence on an increasingly unreliable utility grid. A small solar system will “slow the meter down”, reducing the monthly hydro bill. A larger system may ”turn the meter backwards”, so that during the day, excess power is sold back to the utility. Producing your own power is not only satisfying, but can protect you during a power failure as well.

Basic Grid Tie: A solar array produces power during the day, and an inverter synchronizes this power with that supplied by the utility. Your home uses solar energy first, and draws whatever else it needs from your utility. At night, the utility supplies 100% of your power.

Grid Tie + Backup: Your solar system functions the same way as a basic grid tie system, delivering power to your home during the day. But your system also has battery storage. In the event of grid power failure, your inverter switches to battery power to supply your home’s needs. This keeps your important equipment running during outages or brownouts.

U.S. State Rebate Programs
If you have determined that you have a proper location and you have a wind resource that is at least 9 mph, you will need to ensure that your state allows the connection of a small wind turbine into the grid and perhaps offers incentives.

More than half the States in the Union offer incentives of one type of another. These range from no tax on renewables to discounts on the Whisper Link system by up to 70 percent! The Database of State Incentives for Renewable Energy (DSIRE) then select your state to see what programs are available. Incentives are not critical but they can significantly reduce cost of your wind system. Most important in this issue is what is known as Net Metering. For a small wind system to be practical, a Net Metering law must be in place.
